Food securityThe agricultural sector is highly dependent on amounts and quality of water. Ever since climate change and exponential population growth are acknowledged to threaten food security, the latter topic is on the political agendas. Agrohydrology can eventually contribute to improve cropping conditions. Drip irrigation and controlled composite drainage systems can, for example, boost crop yields. Hence, the position of farmers would be strengthened and a contribution would be made to improving food security.
