STRATEGICAL ASSESSMENTS
Today, effective, efficient and sustainable use of fresh water is more important than ever before. As the world’s population grows, prosperity increases and quality standards rise, fresh water is becoming increasingly scarce. In many regions, water is extracted from aquifers faster than it can be replenished, resulting in depleted groundwater aquifers and land subsidence. Implementing creative local solutions enables us to increase the availability of fresh water. Rainwater harvesting is one such example. Storing this water locally and subsequently using it for agriculture through innovative irrigation techniques makes it possible to use the water much more efficiently on a local level. Acacia Water operates globally in the field of sustainable, efficient and effective water consumption. These activities range from the development of models to identify the most desirable strategies to organizing workshops for stakeholders. Three elements are essential to the Acacia Water projects: the demand of local users, the preconditions set by the landscape – the natural system – and the expected yields of specific measures. The power of our projects lies in the combination of these elements. Particularly this combination results in well-founded, practical and widely accepted solutions. It is with a view to this acceptance that we strike up a dialogue with both policy makers and water users and reach out to them.
