SYSTEM SPECIFIC APPROACH
Acacia Water applies a system specific approach to generate a practical understanding of the groundwater and surface water. This enables the identification of promising locations to create access to water, and helps to assess the long-term effects of measures on the environment.
A hydrogeologic approach offers a wide insight into the water system. Based on knowledge of the various subsurface sediments and the natural dividing features in the landscape, measurements – even if available to a limited extent – can be interpreted and scaled up. The result is an impression of the entire area. Several data sources are combined in this respect, including satellite data, geological data and soil maps, piezometer and drilling data, and local empirical expertise.
In the Netherlands, we provide advice based on insight into the current water system and the geological sedimentary history of the delta. This allows us to assess the opportunities for effective catchment area management, soil salinity control, local freshwater availability and water quality optimization. All around the world, for example in Kenya, Ethiopia, Bangladesh and Suriname, we locate high-quality groundwater aquifers and provide advice on (ground)water recharge and sustainable ways of extracting this water.
