A12 highway water management

Design settlement and infiltration facility

Widening of the motorway should be done in a way that blends in well with the landscape in order to guarantee proper water discharge and to prevent pollution and inconvenience for the environment. In the project to widen the A12 motorway, this was done on the instructions of and in partnership with BAM. The water management system for the motorway was redesigned and prepared for installation. This involved aspects including the design of sedimentation and infiltration provisions to prevent pollution of the environment. Climate change was taken into account in the design of the water storage facility.

An important aspect in the design of the water management system concerned coordination with other disciplines. Issues related to remediation operations, cables and pipes were investigated by several teams, and other elements such as acoustic barriers, masts, pylons et cetera were incorporated in the design. This project was carried out in close cooperation with the Vallei en Eem Water Board and the Stichtse Rijnlanden Higher Water Board.
