Monitoring quality and quantity with a numerical gorundwater model

Groundwater modelling for drinking water in The Netherlands

Dunea produces and distributes drinking water to 1.3 million households. Dunea is responsible and accountable for water and nature management in their sourcing area. Hence, monitoring of monitoring groundwater quality and quantity is one of their main tasks. One of the tools Dunea employs for this monitoring is a numerical groundwater model. Acacia Water supported Dunea in updating this model.

Acacia Water improved, updated and calibrated the existing groundwater model. Acacia Water’s in depth-knowledge and ample experience in groundwater modelling resulted in improved modelling results. By means of the numerical model it is now possible to perform extensive scenario studies, to answer questions concerning the design of extraction points and extraction regimes, to provide insights in environmental objectives and to gather information with regard to monitoring networks.

The ultimate result of the project is an updated numerical groundwater model that enables Dunea to answer hydrogeological questions and counteract in time for eventual threats. The model is user-friendly and directly applicable.
