Animation showcases: Building ecosystem resilience in Ethiopia

Building long-term resilience of communities in Ethiopia’s Somali Region

How can we build the long-term resilience of communities to withstand recurring food and water insecurity, droughts and flash floods in the Horn of Africa and wider Sahel?

This animation from Wetlands International showcases the integrated approaches, linking disaster risk reduction (DRR), and ecosystem management and restoration (EMR), to address the underlying problems degrading the landscape and causing disasters.

For the project area in Ethiopia’s Somali Region, Acacia Water developed a knowledge base: The Atlas of the Upper Fafan Catchment and an implementation manual of pilot studies to restore ecosystems. The resulting maps, manuals and recommendations provided a roadmap for improving the state of the land to reverse environmental degradation.
